The Human Resources (HR) Generalist undertakes a wide range of HR tasks, such as organizing training, recruitment, process development, and crafting HR policies and procedures. You will use internal systems to ensure all employee records are up-to-date and confidential. You will also act as the main point of contact for employees’ queries on HR-related topics.

The goal is to ensure the HR department’s operations will be running smoothly and effectively to deliver maximum value to the organization. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist will work in a close team environment along with the HR Recruiter.

Responsibilities:

The HR Generalist supports the Human Resources Department with the main focus on recruitment and the onboarding process

  • Post job openings using the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and external recruitment platforms
  • Participate in screening, assessing candidates towards company core values, scheduling interviews with hiring managers, and reference checks
  • Provide effective feedback and communication to candidates throughout the recruiting process
  • Conduct employee onboarding and help organize training & development initiatives.
  • Create and update corporate job descriptions
  • Assist with the onboarding process and the technical setup of new hire

Conducting general human resources tasks

  • Maintain and update databases internally, such as the ERP and SharePoint
  • Assist in the development and implementation of human resource policies
  • Prepare and amend where necessary HR documents, i.e. employment contracts and recruitment guides
  • Implement and administer employee policies and promote positive employee relations
  • Manage and monitor performance-related issues and implement changes that could increase productivity
  • Collaborate with the Payroll department in the creation of letters
  • Facilitate annual performance reviews using internal workflow tools
  • Create and post social media updates on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and SharePoint
  • Handle termination-related matters and prepare termination and severance letters
  • Develops human resources solutions by collecting and analyzing information; recommending courses of action.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest HR trends and best practice
  • Participating in ongoing human resources projects

     

    Providing general support to the Head Office

  • Liaises with various internal and external contacts to coordinate office activities and provide or request information
  • Attends to all logistical concerns such as booking meeting rooms, preparing material and equipment, and ordering catering
  • Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics that may arise
  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form

Performing other related duties as required

Qualifications and Education:

  • Degree or diploma in a related program such as Human Resources
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience in an office or customer service setting
  • Strong Human Resources and/or Recruitment experience.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset

Skills:

  • Knowledge of Employment Standard Act and employment equity regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) and/or database systems
  • Good knowledge of data analysis including identifying appropriate data, compiling and, reporting of results, implications, and recommendations
  • Ability to act with tact, good judgment, and discretion, maintaining the confidentiality of files, personal information, and other matters, as appropriate
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner with accuracy and attention to details
  • High standards of ethics, a professional attitude and commitment to quality service
  • Must be social media savvy
  • Knowledge and expertise in HR policies and procedures
  • Significant knowledge of the hiring process
  • A strong understanding of best practices and current regulations specific to HR
