JOB SUMMARY:
The Grid Modernization Engineer plays a key role in offering both strategic and tactical guidance regarding data requirements, modeling, monitoring, control, and communication within the distribution system. The Grid Modernization Engineer takes the lead in supporting the operational facets of Grid Modernization and is responsible for evaluating, developing, and implementing new technologies, as well as enhancing existing processes and equipment. These initiatives aim to facilitate the efficient operation of Hydro Ottawa's distribution grid and contribute to the strategic adoption of Grid Modernization solutions.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to the development and execution of Hydro Ottawa’s Grid Modernization Roadmap
Evaluate, implement and manage new Grid Modernization initiatives including technology, software, solutions and equipment
Develop and support the utilization of data analytics to enhance grid efficiency and optimize the life of distribution assets
Provide thought leadership on solutions that amplify the effectiveness of Grid Modernization systems and applications
Oversee end-to-end process management and conduct change impact analysis
Develop and implement system and data configuration requirements, as well as use cases
Provide real-time troubleshooting and issue resolution for system users, offering technical support to other business units
Deliver presentations to decision-makers and stakeholders
Assist with managing and coordinating the successful completion of special projects as required
Evaluate project and program options and alternatives
Prepare business cases and financial analysis for projects and programs contributing to overall budget and business planning processes
May be required to participate in industry committees, panels and conferences as a representative of Hydro Ottawa
Participate in Business Continuity Plan and On Call programs, as required
Perform other duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Professional Engineer, licensed or eligible to be licensed in the province of Ontario
Undergraduate degree in Engineering
Experience in Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement frameworks considered an asset
Knowledge of Ontario’s energy sector and regulatory framework considered an asset
Knowledge of advanced distribution management systems considered an asset
Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite
English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (French/English) or other languages considered an asset
This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, the details of which the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates.
