KPU proudly offers all learners opportunities to achieve success in a diverse range of programs that blend theory and practice, critical understanding, and social and ethical awareness necessary for good citizenship and rewarding careers.   The Faculty of Health at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for a part time 60% Non-Regular Type 2 (one-year appointment for the period May 1 2023 to April 30 2024) faculty to teach in our Graduate Nurse Internationally Educated Re-Entry Program (GNIE).  

FACULTY OVERVIEW:

As Canada’s only polytechnic university, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is the fourth largest university in the province of British Columbia and serves communities in the South Fraser region and beyond. The Graduate Nurse Internationally Educated Re-entry (GNIE) program is a full time one year certificate program which prepares internationally educated nurses (IENs) for professional nursing practice and licensure in Canada. The program is designed to prepare IENs to practice within the Canadian healthcare system, renew and enhance previously acquired knowledge and skills, identify and address individual needs, ensure graduates meet the professional practice requirements, and enable effective communication skills with patients and colleagues. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives and to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
This unique program prepares internationally educated nurses (IENs) for professional nursing practice in Canada. This program is designed for IENs who demonstrate fundamental knowledge-based nursing practice and are required by The British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) to renew and enhance nursing knowledge and skills, in preparation for nursing practice and licensure in Canada.
This program is designed to:

  • Prepare IENs to practice within the Canadian health care setting
  • Renew and enhance previously acquired knowledge and skills
  • Identify and address individual needs
  • Ensure graduates meet the professional practice requirements
  • Enable effective communication skills with patients and colleagues

Note: Clinical placements take place at any of the Lower Mainland hospitals between North Vancouver and Chilliwack. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from clinical experiences.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The position 

The Faculty of Health is seeking to fill a non-regular type 2 part-time faculty positions @ 60%. Courses include Lab, Theory and Clinical courses in the GNIE program. The contract will include teaching across two or three semester and includes benefits and paid vacation. Specific courses to be covered include;

Summer 2023
GNIE 1227 clinical
GNIE 1117 clinical 

Fall 2023
GNIE 1117 lab
GNIE 1117 clinical
GNIE 1227 clinical

Spring 2024 
Non -teaching term

QUALIFICATIONS:

The required academic credentials to teach in the GNIE program are specific to the program and are as follows:

  • Master’s Degree (Master’s Degree in progress)
  • Eligible for practicing membership with BCCNM with no limits, no conditions, no terms.
  • Experience in integration and education of IENs in Canada preferred.
  • Related work experience in Canada
