The Opportunity:

BE PART OF ONE OF THE LARGEST PIPELINE EXPANSION PROJECTS IN CANADA!

 

WSP E&I Canada is providing geohazard and geotechnical field services to the TransMountain Expansion Project. This project is essentially a twinning of this existing 1,150-kilometre pipeline between Strathcona County (near Edmonton), Alberta and Burnaby, BC and will increase the capacity of the pipeline system from approximately 300,000 barrels per day to 890,000 barrels per day.

 

With opportunities for multiple Geotechnical Engineers on our team, this is an exceptional opportunity to develop or expand your career and experience by being part of one of the largest and most complex engineering and construction projects in western Canada!

 

Our ideal candidate has a geotechnical engineering background focused on pipelines and/or linear infrastructure. Experience in assessing and managing natural geohazards would also be beneficial. We are also open to individuals with a civil land development background or geological engineers interested in transitioning into this field.

A day in the life:

  • Carry out analytical and design functions for projects at stages ranging from scoping to detailed engineering, construction, and closure.
  • Primarily a field role, rotate out to the project site on a structured basis for duration of construction
  • Develop and carry out geotechnical investigations, laboratory testing plans and instrumentation installation.
  • Manage and direct site investigations and prepare technical reports.
  • Manage and coordinate project teams, ensure the technical quality of deliverables.
  • Assess geohazards along the pipeline and provide options for mitigation.
  • Work with multiple stakeholders to identify and work through practical solutions
  • Provide construction quality assurance (CQA).
  • Be encouraged to become a contributing member of the WSP E&I Canada Geotechnical / Geohazards Group
  • You will always ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites and take WSP's Life Saving rules to heart;

 

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering. Masters degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • 3 or more years of experience in the geotechnical / construction field
  • Eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or an Engineer in Training (EIT) with Engineers or Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Flexibility to work a variety of schedules (from 1 week on up to 3 weeks on shift (days / nights) in a range of weather conditions is required for this role
  • Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) field experience desired
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is an asset
  • Experience working on pipeline or other linear infrastructure projects is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Superior time management, planning and ability to interact with clients.
  • Ability to think “outside the box” to create innovative engineering and design solutions
  • Ability to work in the laboratory (including geologic core logging) and office settings.
  • Pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
  • Unrestricted Class 5 driver’s license valid in British Columbia
  • Clean Driver's Abstract (to be provided by successful candidates)
