The Opportunity:
WSP E&I has exciting opportunities for Geotechnical/Geological professionals with our Alberta Geotechnical Team. This role will entail geological and geotechnical core logging in support of geotechnical projects in the Athabasca Oilsands. The position would primarily be based in WSP E&I Canada Edmonton laboratory but may also include some camp-based work in northern Alberta.

A day in the life:
In this type of role with WSP E&I, your work could include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Describing, photographing, and sampling of mud rotary and sonic cores
- Utilizing downhole geophysical logs for picking marker units in the stratigraphy and depth correcting the core
- Generating borehole logs based on core logging and field logs, along with other related reporting and documentation.
- Communicating key findings to Project Engineers and Geologists
- Other related tasks as needed to support the project and team
What you'll bring to WSP ...
- University degree (or in progress) in geology, or related field;
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Geologist (PGeo) or Geologist in Training (GIT) with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
- A relevant combination of experience and education/training would be considered
- An understanding of and the ability to classify soil and rock types is essential
- Previous experience with oilsands, and/or core logging, and/or in the geotechnical industry is preferred
- An understanding of sedimentary depositional environments and downhole geophysical logs would be an asset
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English
- Must be well organized, have the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, deliver on time and on budget
- Must be able to work in a team environment and independently
- Ability and flexibility to work at remote camp-based sites would be an asset
- Experience operating a forklift with a valid ticket, or ability/willingness to learn to operate, would be an asset (optional)
