Position Summary
Under the administrative direction of the Manager, WIL and Experiential Learning, the Experiential Learning Coordinator (ELC) identifies, cultivates and maintains relationships with community partners, with the objective of sourcing experiential education (EE) opportunities that support the goals and curriculum of an assigned Faculty and related transdisciplinary work.
The incumbent supports efforts to enhance the employability and success of Seneca Polytechnic students and graduates by increasing the number of high-quality EE opportunities available for students and reducing barriers to student participation in EE.
The incumbent will coordinate the effective operations of ongoing EE projects and opportunities in accordance with faculty and partner requirements, review student eligibility for and process EE related stipends and external grants and utilize strategies and tools to create a variety of project records and reports.
Travel to various Seneca campuses might be required.
Responsibilities
Partnership Development & Management
- Identifying, cultivating and maintaining relationships with community partners to provide appropriate EE opportunities across Seneca
- Acting as an ambassador for Seneca and its Faculties and Schools at community functions, events and when working with community partners, to build relationships and respond to issues pertaining to EE
- Demonstrating the value of EE for the community partner and student and to ask for support in providing an EE opportunity
- Contributing to a database of EE opportunities at local, national, and international levels; and database of Memoranda of Agreements or Affiliation Agreements
Faculty Collaboration & Student Support
- Assisting in the development and actioning of short and long-term plans in collaboration with WIL Leadership and faculty responsible for courses in order to recommend the most suitable types of EE to enhance the student experience across courses/programs
- Providing support (resources, workshops, consultations and/or guidance) for faculty, staff, community members, and students (graduate or undergraduate) engaging in EE
- Facilitating connections between faculty members and community partners, to advance community-based research
- Assisting with designing, facilitating, and completing appropriate assignments, assessments and evaluations to support the integration of course content with experiential opportunities, and to monitor and evaluate community relationships and student experiences
- Ensuring that Faculty specific policies, processes, and procedures are followed and completed for any type of EE
- Develop and deliver student orientation to experiential projects either in person or virtual
Implementation of Special Initiatives
- Assisting in creating and maintaining program-level mapping of all EE activities across Seneca to achieve and maintain elements of the strategic plan.
- Building and maintaining applicant files and the maintenance of strict confidentiality regarding student records and information
- Preparing reports for internal and external funding partners as it pertains to EE
Shared Practices, Communication & Marketing
- Collaborating, sharing ideas and best practices, with peers supporting other Faculties
- Assisting in integrating workflows and activities related to EE activities across campus, leading specific initiatives
- Participating, representing, and supporting numerous recruiting activities that require attendance outside of normal working hours
- Contributing to marketing campaigns that relate to EE within the Department, Seneca and community
Qualifications
Education
- A minimum four (4) year Degree or equivalent in Education, Business Administration, Natural/Physical Sciences or related fields.
- Post-graduate credential in Project Management is an asset.
Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience coordinating experiential learning opportunities, applied research, curriculum development or related. Experience in a post-secondary sector within these areas is preferred.
- Experience in managing multiple projects of a similar nature with conflicting priorities is essential.
Skills
- Knowledge of experiential education within the post-secondary system and its features and benefits for all stakeholders (employers/industry partners; students; post-secondary community)
- Strong critical thinking, judgment, organization, planning, and prioritizing skills are required
- Strong understanding and commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required to build lasting relationships
- Excellent customer service, relationship management skills
- Strong organizational skills are imperative to document, track and report
Note: A skills assessment test will be administered during the recruitment process.
· Unusual hours including evening and weekend work will be required to support events
