Desired background: For this exciting position we are specifically targeting students with a background in Environmental Science, Biology, Forestry, Resource Management or other related fields. The Environmental UAV Co-op will be responsible for providing support to the Technical team in UAV and GIS system installation and application, document advanced UAV use cases, and train end users. Minimum Qualifications: Must currently be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term. You must also be returning to a post-secondary institution after the co-op term is completed. Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PST or MDT or relocate to a specific office (Vancouver or site-based)
Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Participate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day.
- Assist the Technical team with support on; documentation and reporting, installation and application of UAV systems at our operations and installation and application of GIS systems at our operations
- Documentation of advanced UAV use cases
- Cooperate closely with sites to support and train end users to apply advanced use cases
- Project Management tasks, including safety and contractor supervision, and project planning
- Build and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
- Focus on sustainability and emerging environmental applications of UAV and environmental technology
Qualifications

- Working towards an Environment related major (Environmental Science, Biology, Forestry, Resource Management etc.)
- An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Pilot Certification is preferred
- Proficient in geographic information systems with experience in environmental data management, analysis and reporting
- Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
- Comfortable working in a dynamic work environment with a willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate sophisticated ideas to all levels and partners
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Able to work efficiently independently as well as part of the team
- Proven ability to learn new technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently
- Ability to communicate with precision in a technical environment
- Able to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand
- All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work. Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.
- Driver's license is required
