ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This role reports to Dean or designate.
SUMMARY
The Mentor is responsible for supporting and providing feedback to students of the assigned projects as provided at the start of term. Mentors provide weekly feedback, guide students in their field of expertise.
Mentors are expected to do a total of 13 weekly mentoring sessions with students and the sessions are scheduled during weekdays (generally after regular work hours), and potentially on
Saturdays.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans/schedules weekly mentoring sessions with the faculty member or program coordinator as required
- Provide students with weekly feedback on their projects
- Help students to scope, plan, and execute their projects
- Encourage and motivate students through constructive feedback
- Records student attendance
- Submits reports and records, including final grade breakdown, and attendance registers on time and in accordance with prescribed procedures
- Sets and models a high standard of professional behaviour and appropriate appearance
- Adheres to the Policies and Procedures of the university
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with administrators, peers, support staff, students and the community at large
- Participates in scheduled meetings and appropriate university-related activities as requested by the Dean or designate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Demonstrable familiarity and experience in one or more of the following disciplines:
- 2D Animation
- 3D Animation/3D Modelling
- Game Development
- Video Production
- A minimum of one accredited published movie, game, or app title and/or 3 years of industry experience in an appropriate area of development
- Relevant degree/diploma is advantageous
- Experience working with and teaching students is advantageous
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret and apply university, government, agency and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Ability to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility
- Ability to use tact and discretion to deal with or settle complex requests or complaints
- Ability to communicate effectively with people who have limited English language proficiency
The hourly rate is $60/hour, inclusive of all the in lieu benefits.
