SUMMARY |
The Electrical Specialist has a minimum 5 years’ critical environment experience and holds a valid 309A Electrician Certificate of Qualification issued by the province in which the work is performed. The incumbent is responsible for operating facility electrical systems, performing preventative/corrective maintenance, and routine services on facility electrical, associated mechanical equipment and systems and will be responsible for deployment and ongoing coordination of the Electrical Maintenance Plan. The Electrical Specialist plans, schedules, and coordinates electrical repairs, maintenance, on-demand services and provides oversight for the execution of activities performed by sub-contractors to ensure that work is performed in accordance to established processes and practices, including requirements for mandated maintenance including that of the Electrical Safety Authority. The Electrical Specialist may from time to time her/himself perform and deliver preventative and corrective maintenance as well as routine and on-demand services.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES |
Installation, Maintenance & Repair
- Responsible for the ongoing electrical repairs, maintenance and service requests, including major electrical as well as communication/IT repairs and installations.
- regular facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems monitoring and inspection, preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime objectives are met and uninterrupted client operation and asset integrity of assigned facility are maintained. Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides recommendations for enhancement and repair.
- Analyzes documentation and reporting. Participates in the preparation, planning and schedules the recommended repairs or modifications to the electrical systems based on the review of the various studies, analysis and reports.
- Provides as required input in the tendering, procurement, assessment of bids for all electrical work activities for PDS as required.
- Oversees and performs infra-red scans. Provide technical oversight & analysis of infrared reports and Implements plans to correct issues.
- Provides technical oversight/expertise in the revision of deliverable documentations, such as Single line drawings, analysis of vibration analysis, and analysis of electrical co-ordination studies.
- Oversees the maintenance of as well as updates work order records within service management maintenance database. Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required.
- Coordinates and assists in the implementation of preventative maintenance program. Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentations are maintained.
- Assist in the management of the time and space calendars as required during major all electrical work.
- Participates in facility-related projects as required and actively in the implementation of energy reduction initiatives
- Correctly maintains all assigned tools.
- Participates in and supports training, safety meetings, operational meetings, toolbox talks, etc.
- Must be available for on-call and to respond to emergencies.
- Occasionally works off peak hours as required ex: weekend shutdowns.
- Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Communication
- Communicates effectively as required with internal and external stake holders.
- Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
- Attends meeting as required and monthly BGIS meetings.
- Participates in project user requirements and meetings that involve electrical components or modifications.
- Documents activities related to building operations and maintenance.
- Provides input to the Operations/Customer Business Manager with respect to building equipment & systems conditions; with recommendation for repairs and for project planning, life cycle budget planning and forecasting.
- Collects and reviews data on corrective maintenance. Studies trends on repairs to uncover larger scale issues. Implements plans to correct issues.
- Participates in and assists with facility-related meetings for project preparation and implementation as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Administration
- Assigns, prioritizes and monitors work progress to ensure completion and adherence to timeliness, quality standards, costs and all other related requirements.
- Adheres to BGIS procurement policies and procedures as directed.
- Reviews work for completeness and accuracy. Ensures quality adherence is maintained.
- Submits all required expenditures/financial reports on a timely basis.
- Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements of the client as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- A minimum of 5 years hands-on critical environment job-related experience.
- Maintains current designation as licensed 309A electrician in province of work.
- Knowledge of and ability to maintain, troubleshooting and repair building mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes best practices as they pertain to buildings and critical environment electrical maintenance and repairs.
- Experience managing contractors and small projects.
- Effective communication skills.
- Good reporting, documentation and analytical skills.
- Strong ability to prioritize and plan effectively.
- Ability to adhere to processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
- Current knowledge of fire, life, safety systems and building codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and standards.
- Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
- Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset. Ability to perform work in a safe manner.
- Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- Canadian Red Seal 309A electrical license
- Level 1 / 2 Thermography Certificate (Infra-red Scan)
- Certified energy manager would be considered an asset.
- Electrical engineer or technologist would be considered an asset.
- Valid Driver’s License.
