Our Alberta Buildings Team is looking to expand its team in Edmonton with the addition of a team-oriented and driven individual looking for career opportunity and advancement. In this position as an Electrical Technologist, you will work with general supervision and direction on the electrical design for a broad range of projects across multiple sectors. You will participate in the facility evaluation, conceptual planning, design development, preparation of contract documents, assistance during tender, construction administration, and post-construction services. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include design, drafting, calculations, and field work.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsible for electrical design and contract documents production on projects of varying complexity/size
Evaluates, selects, specifies, electrical and telecommunications systems or products for a project
Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats
Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and utility systems
Prepares and revises documentation in various electrical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details
Participates in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors
Assists senior-level staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule
Engages in the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with contract documents
Performs calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software
Conducts quality assurance and quality control of working documents prior to submitting to supervisor for final QA/QC
Assists in the development of tools, methodology, and detail libraries for preparation of electrical contract documents
Provide construction administration for projects designed by you as well as by others
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Registered CET with ASET
Comprehensive knowledge and application of Canadian Electrical Code and applicable building, energy codes local utility and local City Standards
General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
General knowledge of electrical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
Thorough understanding of electrical design concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
Advanced oral and written communication skills
Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
Required experience with design software using Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, Revit and AutoCAD. Knowledge of AGI32 and ETAP are a great advantage
Knowledge of local utility and local City standards
Education and Experience
Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized institute.2 to 4 years of experience.
