The Opportunity
Reporting to the Academic Chair, the Lab Technician plays a crucial role in setting up and maintaining the Aero Centre labs, associated areas, and related equipment. Key responsibilities include:
Collaborating with instructional staff to design, construct, and maintain complex technical equipment/devices based on ideas and sketches provided. Ensuring the upkeep and repair of a wide range of laboratory and test equipment while meeting instructional requirements. Developing and preparing laboratory exercises in alignment with instructional staff directions to complement instruction as needed. Managing the procurement of equipment and supplies for repair and laboratories, including inventory control duties, assessing instructional equipment, and providing recommendations for acceptance or rejection. Maintaining and servicing ground equipment on site at the Aero Center (including forklifts, pallet jacks, tugs and towing equipment). Operating the forklift and overhead cranes in the facility. Overseeing the maintenance and repair of tooling and safety equipment within labs and classrooms. Serving as the primary point of contact for BGIS and other contractors. Managing and operating the main hangar parts room and tooling. Performing additional duties as required.
