ABOUT THE TEAM
The Taxation Group supports our public and private markets investments in all aspects of M&A activity and asset management. Your role is purely advisory, there is a dedicated team that manages PSP’s tax reporting and tax compliance requirements. The Taxation Group is located in Montreal and in London. This role is based in Montreal.
ABOUT YOUR ROLE
As a Director, Taxation, you will:
Work independently with light supervision on global private market transactions and asset management in Canada and abroad (private equity, infrastructure, real estate, natural resources, credit investments) including investments in private funds
Engage with the investment teams to understand the commercial objectives of transactions and deliver early-stage tax support for acquisitions and dispositions
Collaborate with external tax advisors on transactions to provide relevant and value-adding input on transactions structure and lead the development and implementation of structures in relation to acquisitions and disposition of investments
Oversee advisors for tax due diligence mandate, converting the tax diligence and structuring outcomes into clearly communicated tax assumptions in the deal model
Review the tax sections of a deal model and/or oversee advisors in this role
Maintain post-closing documentation of transactions and structures using PSP’s internal data repository systems and tax risks management tools
Actively participate to the asset management of investments by discussing with the deal teams any anticipated changes in the structure as early as possible, assisting with any tax-related question during the life of the investment, and communicating to the deal team significant changes in taxation laws impacting the investments
Monitor the integrity of existing tax structures and recommend corrective measures, as required
Provide tax advice on a variety of domestic and international tax matters
Liaise with the investment, finance, and legal teams on various projects
Where relevant, engage with the tax compliance team during tax provision process and collaborate with tax compliance related items (foreign investment filings, tax audits, etc.)
Interpret and monitor Canadian and international tax developments, emerging issues, trends and changing regulatory requirements, and evaluate the potential impact on PSP’s activities
Assist the taxation group in developing and maintaining relationships with tax authorities and policymakers such that PSP’s tax priorities and concerns are effectively communicated during the design of new tax legislations
Support taxation group in developing, building, and managing relationships with accounting firms and law firms
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Graduate studies in taxation or completion of CICA In-Depth Tax Course
Professional designation (Lawyer or CPA)
Strong technical background with a minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of tax experience (with recognized experience in international and/or M&A tax)
Experience with private market deals, large organizations, and cross-border structures
Strong organizational and coordination skills
Results-oriented, self-motivated, and proactive
Highly motivated to lead multiple complex projects and create value
Demonstrated writing skills and strong oral presentation skills
Bilinguism English and French *(Frequent interactions in English with PSP employees based in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa)
