The Talent Acquisition Director plays a dual role by leading the Talent Acquisition strategies and operations for the Corporate Functions at Sun Life (Marketing, HR, Legal, Communications, etc.) and acts as the Centre of Expertise for Campus strategies in Canada.
The Director leads a dynamic and talented team with a focus on developing and executing recruitment strategies to proactively source and recruit top talent for the organization. You have an in-depth understanding of Talent Acquisition strategies and operations, the markets we operate in and the trends that impact the labour market. You build excellent partnerships and provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders and stay connected to understand business needs and emerging trends.
Accountabilities
Being a Strategic and Data Driven Leader
- Designs and implements talent acquisition strategies to source, attract, hire and/or redeploy talent to address the organizational needs of our clients
- Leverages root cause analysis skills to review and analyze weekly recruitment metrics to identify areas of strength and opportunities across the operation
- Manages the operation by leveraging KPIs and coaching the team to drive time and process efficiencies while balancing with great candidate and hiring manager experiences to find top talent
- Co-leads continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiencies, amazing candidate experiences to find the best talent for the needs of today and the future
Leading Campus Centre of Expertise
- Advises and participates in cross-functional initiatives as a Campus Talent Acquisition
- Centre of Expertise to ensure consistent overall execution of the function and to capitalize on opportunities for synergy across the different talent segments
- Co-develops the Campus strategy for Sun Life in partnership with the AVP of Talent Acquisition, Directors of Talent Acquisition, Business Leaders and HRBPs
- Provides a unified approach to Sun Life’s campus operations by leading the communications, student engagement, orientation, recruitment cycle launch and overall Student experience
- Partners with other Talent Acquisition Directors on the development of targeted Campus Strategies and Programs within their respective segments (Digital/Tech, Operations, etc.)
- Oversees the implementation of a uniform Campus brand that presents Sun Life as an employer of choice with a particular focus on our target schools / regions
Creating a high-functioning team
- Leads the continuing evolution of our talent acquisition consultant team in an environment that demands quick thinking, workload balancing, aggressive sourcing skills and a proactive approach to talent acquisition
- Coaches and develops Talent Acquisition Consultants on recruitment strategy, consulting skills, sourcing techniques including complex searches and process administration
- Elevates proactive sourcing skills and approach across the team to identify, nurture, convert, retain and redeploy talent
Experience and Capabilities
- Ten (10+) years of continuous experience in Human Resources with a focus on leading and managing a talent acquisition function in a large matrixed organization preferably with blended experience in Campus and Experienced Recruitment strategies and practices
- Expertise in Campus talent acquisition best practices with an ability to adapt practices based on environmental considerations
- Experience managing teams by leveraging metrics and KPIs
- Demonstrated team leadership and people management, hands-on coaching and mentoring experience
- Demonstrated team leadership and people management, hands-on coaching and mentoring experience
- Experience leading the adoption of change initiatives, adoption of technology and building up of consulting skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and nurture productive business relationships by establishing trust and partnership
- Demonstrated consultative and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable with ambiguity
- Demonstrated ability to produce quality work in a collaborative, fast-paced matrixed environment, balancing high production with the delivery of longer term objectives
- Current knowledge of talent trends and market intelligence
Assets, but not mandatory
- BA/BS degree in Human Resources, business administration or related field
- CHRL designation
- Bilingual (English & French)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
