Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC is committed to helping accelerate economic reconciliation in Canada and building deeper, long-term relationships with Indigenous communities across Canada and to helping bring groups together to understand the challenges and advance ideas for progress.

The Director, Stakeholder Engagement (Indigenous) will be responsible for leading a strategic initiative focused on economic reconciliation and the role that corporate Canada can play in advancing this important topic. The role will sit within RBC’s Economics and Thought Leadership team and will oversee the research and publication of insights as well as a coordinated engagement strategy with Indigenous leaders, communities, business leaders, and subject matter experts. You will serve as a key point of contact for external partners, ensuring they are connected to the right internal partners and seamlessly engaged in two-way dialogue.

What will you do?

  • Support the development and execution of an integrated, robust external engagement strategy for the bank with Indigenous leaders and communities across Canada.

  • Lead and coordinate a research initiative focused on economic reconciliation and sustainability, including planning for a signature publication in 2024.

  • Develop and execute on a detailed outreach strategy with Indigenous communities through direct meetings, community visits and more formal gatherings such as Listening Circles.

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners related to topics of importance to Indigenous communities and where the bank could make meaningful impact.

  • Ensure key partners within RBC are informed and kept apprised of the engagements underway and relevant information that may be relevant to their day-to-day work.

  • Lead the development of a robust internal and external communications and engagement strategy related to the initiative.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 10 years of public affairs, government relations and/or communications experience

  • Strong skills & experience building & maintaining relationships with external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work across multiple internal teams and seek alignment across key priorities.

  • Highly adaptable with the ability to prioritize competing requests in a fast-paced environment; embrace change; and demonstrate diplomacy, professionalism and a positive attitude.

  • Ability to confidently provide strategic guidance to senior leaders and possess the ability to educate and influence others on communications best practices.

Nice-to-have   

  • Undergraduate degree/post-graduate certificate or equivalent in communications, public relations, journalism, English or related field.

  • Digital and social media savvy, with a strong grasp on the evolving digital media landscape

  • Ability to meet consistently high standards of quality while handling a variety of projects and deadlines simultaneously
