Job Description:
We are looking for someone to join our climate team to support the establishment of our scope 1 and 2 carbon footprint, work for the AVP of Climate and Environment Performance. Our ideal candidate is passionate about climate change and has experience working with carbon accounting and target implementation within business units and functions. The successful candidate will work with data owners across the organization to build scope 1 and 2 climate footprint, establish roadmaps for all BG’s and functions, ultimately delivering an enterprise scope 1 and 2 climate transition plan. This also includes working closely with our International Sustainability Council (ISC), a group of business leaders within Sun Life charged with embedding sustainability across the Company and reporting on progress.
Our climate team acts as a central resource to the business lines, managing target development and roadmap implementation in collaboration with the ISC and business representatives, monitors climate target performance, and is responsible for reporting. The team leads the work to embed sustainable practices into our business, driving positive social and environmental impact, on issues from climate change to rising diabetes rates. Supporting the team’s efforts is a network of sustainability champions from different business units and regions in which we operate.
The Director role has a pivotal responsibility in both defining and delivering the successful implementation of a best-in-class decarbonization plans, with a focus on embedding climate change into the corporate functions and governance, and working closely with the Director, Business Group Sustainability Strategy.
What you will do:
Work directly with the VP Climate Change, the Climate Change team, the wider Sustainability team, and other senior SLF representatives to lead implementation of the Sun Life Sustainability Plan
Develop decarbonization plans for scope 1 and 2 with functional leaders within the corporate head office to embed sustainability further into their strategic plans, and report on progress
Collaborate with functional partners to develop metrics and KPIs to measure outcomes against both internal objectives and external benchmarks
Provide insight and advice to senior management on best practices in sustainability plans, and create materials to support communications roll out of the plan to Clients, employees and stakeholders
Engage with external stakeholders and represent SLF at sustainability events to gather information and bring best practices to the organization
Provide project management for other sustainability initiatives as required
What you will need to succeed:
Proficiency in project management
Well-organized and self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
Attention to detail
Excellent analytical and problem-solution skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to coordinate and organize internal stakeholders
Masters degree in sustainability or equivalent an asset
What you will need to succeed:
Minimum 5 years experience in a sustainability role; with a financial services firm a plus
This role requires a dynamic leader and strategic thinker
Expertise on issues such as climate change, sustainable investing, and UN Sustainable Development Goals
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in sustainability plans and how to implement in large organizations
Demonstrated ability to build rapport with colleagues and achieve outcomes through influence

If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $131,800 - $197,700 annually.
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $155,600 - $233,500 annually.
We consider various factors in determining actual pay including your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to salary, this position is eligible for incentive awards based on individual and business performance as well as a broad range of competitive benefits.
