Position Summary
Reporting to the General Manager, Operations, the Director, Operational Excellence leads the design and delivery of the Operational Excellence 1- to 2-year business plan for the Corefco and Sherritt Fort Site organizations (“Metals”), aligning with the overall Metals strategy. The position collaborates with teams located at Moa and ICCI (International Cobalt Company Inc.) to develop the strategy and the accompanying business plan for the broader Metals Enterprise.
This is a full-time position based out of the Fort Saskatchewan office. Travel to the Sherritt corporate office, Bahamas, and Cuba is expected.
Accountabilities
- Design and implement a 2-year business plan for Operational Excellence that aligns with the Metals overall strategy; refresh the plan annually to ensure relevancy and to inform the budget / long range planning process.
- Provide department-specific trend information (including both Sherritt and external trends), as well as draft strategies and goals for input to the 5-year Operations strategy.
- Provide Operational Excellence support, oversight, and guidance to other Metals Enterprise entities.
- Ensure Sherritt Corporate and Corefco Board reporting requirements are consistently met within scope.
- Support the development and rollout of strategic objectives for Sherritt and for the Metals Enterprise.
- Ensure that the Metals functional groups have been trained, understand the standards, and are held to account for maintaining a focus on continuous improvement. This is achieved through the use of techniques such as lean principles and six sigma.
- Ensure the Metals division enterprise risk management process is robust, including risk identification, mitigating action plans, and timely communication to internal stakeholders, including the Corporate office.
- Design, implement, and maintain an optimized organization for Operational Excellence.
- Establish and maintain a high level of employee engagement within the Operational Excellence group via effective communication and aligned culture.
- Lead Fort Site business communications initiatives.
- Optimize the performance of the Operational Excellence team by embedding best practices, instilling a culture of continuous improvement and lean thinking, implementing technical innovation, and improving management systems.
- Develop and implement standards and procedures for the use of Operational Excellence tools within the Metals business unit.
Qualifications and Skills
- A certificate in Continuous Improvement or equivalent in Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt is an asset but not a requirement
- Knowledge of
