Team & Job Overview
The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:
- Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
- Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
- Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
- Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.
EDC now seeks a tenured leader to lead key functions within the technology infrastructure team. These functions are:
- IT Resiliency – develop and maintain IT resiliency plans to ensure cyber recovery and disaster recovery readiness and maturity
- Data Center Facilities – manage data center operations to ensure optimal performance, security and efficiency
Reporting to the Vice-President Technology Operations & Services (TOS), the Director, IT Resiliency, and Data Centre Operations will play a critical role in directing and optimizing all operations of a data center facility to ensure data performance, availability, and security. This includes designing operating procedures and policies for installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, networks, and storage systems within a data center to maximize operational efficiency. The role also involves monitoring environmental conditions to ensure optimal temperature, humidity, and power supply to prevent downtime and protect hardware from damage. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a passion for technology and a proven track record in IT infrastructure management.
IT resiliency is crucial for maintaining uninterrupted services and ensuring business continuity during disruptions. It involves understanding the criticality of business processes, evaluating the underlying technology, and recognizing the corresponding business impact and risk tolerance. As someone who is deeply passionate about end-user experience and a proven change agent, you thrive in ambiguity, build great teams, and succeed in fostering a digital culture from within the business. You will adopt a comprehensive approach to build IT resilience, which includes data backups, IT continuity, backup hardware and systems, and proper IT disaster and recovery planning. By incorporating these elements, you will be well-equipped to handle technical disruptions, maintain operational efficiency, and ensure the organization can recover and rebuild after catastrophic events.
Key Responsibilities across the above functional areas are as follows:
IT Resiliency
- Develop Resiliency Plans: Create and maintain comprehensive IT resiliency plans, including disaster recovery and cyber recovery strategies.
- Continuous Availability: Ensure the continuous availability of IT services to maintain an 'always-on' customer experience. This involves implementing robust backup and disaster recovery plans to protect data and applications from disruptions
- Incident Response Planning: Create and regularly update IT incident response plans to quickly address and mitigate the impact of disruptions. This includes conducting regular testing and simulations to ensure preparedness
- Security Measures: Establish and maintain robust IT security practices to protect against cyber threats and ensure the integrity and availability of IT services
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
- Testing and Drills: Organize and oversee regular testing and drills of resiliency plans to ensure readiness and effectiveness.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards and provide regular reports on resiliency status and improvements.
Data Center Operations
- Manage Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of data center facilities, ensuring optimal performance and uptime. Provide strategic direction and leadership to the data center operations team. Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to ensure high availability and performance.
- Operational Efficiency: Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, networks, and storage systems. Monitor and optimize data center performance, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
- Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain security measures to protect data center infrastructure and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Capacity Planning: Monitor and manage data center capacity, planning for future growth and scalability.
- Vendor Management: Coordinate with vendors and service providers to ensure the delivery of high-quality services and support for data center operations. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support business needs.
- Innovation and Improvement: Identify and implement new technologies to enhance data center operations. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes and performance.
Screening Criteria
- Undergraduate Degree with a specialization in computer science or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in managing data center operations, ensuring optimal performance, security, and efficiency
- Minimum 2 years of experience in developing and maintaining IT resiliency plans, including cyber recovery and disaster recovery readiness
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, networking, and cooling systems
- Familiarity with data center standards and best practices (e.g. ANSI/TIA-942, tier classifications)
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements as it relates to IT Resiliency and Data Center Operations
- Ability to identify and implement new technologies to enhance data center operations.
- Ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes and performance.
- Excellent leadership, communications and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional collaboration, communication and influencing skills
- Proven experience in tech fluency and business fluency
- Bilingualism in both official languages (French and English)

Compensation Details:
- Family Product Owner 20): Salaries typically range from $124,273 to $165,697 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive
Location
- Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
- This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from the Community Hub in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Laval, or Brossard.
