Job Summary:

As the Director, Compensation, you will lead a team of seasoned compensation professionals to develop, implement and maintain comprehensive and integrated compensation programs at a local and global scale. This role will support the organization’s strategy to attract and retain top talent by operationalizing HOOPP’s total rewards strategy. In addition, this role is responsible for ensuring compensation programs are competitive, scalable, and sustainable. This role reports to the Vice President, Total Rewards.

What you will do:

Compensation Program Design & Management

  • In partnership with VP, Total Rewards, develop and implement short and long term strategies to enhance the compensation program operations for HOOPP and monitor their effectiveness.

  • Lead the implementation of global compensation programs to support HOOPP's growth strategy

  • Guide the compensation team in working closely with the Finance team, the HR Business Partners and payroll in annual budgeting and regular forecasting for salary and incentive programs

  • Lead the review of compensation policies & practices, across geographical locations, based industry trends, and communicates enhancements to impacted parties both in HR and the organization

  • Review compensation programs to confirm that they reflect current business strategy including risk management objectives

  • Work with external consultants providing compensation design, market data, and legal advice, and ensures results are tailored to HOOPP’s needs

  • Lead the design and maintenance of HR policies and procedures related to compensation

  • Evolve the job evaluation career framework and other compensation tools to support and promote employee development and growth across the organization

  • Oversee HOOPP’s regular pay equity review, communicating findings and addressing issues as required

  • Guide and advise the team on compensation, salary recommendations, and job evaluations

  • Manages escalation process of compensation recommendations made by the team

  • Oversee the annual pay benchmarking process

  • Partners with HR colleagues in the rollout of compensation programs across the organization

Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a team of compensation professionals, providing guidance and support on compensation matters, developing their skills and capabilities, and optimizing individual and team performance

  • Focus on team development to create a talent pipeline

  • Foster and develop a strong, positive team environment, driving empowerment, innovation, and a high level of engagement

  • Exhibit an ability to listen, negotiate and communicate goals; share knowledge, experience, and responsibility with team to achieve the highest standards of professionalism

  • Instill a service mindset in team members when working with all business partners and stakeholders across all geographical locations

  • Ensure the performance management process is in place and employee development is a priority for all employees on the team

  • Regularly schedule one-on-one coaching with direct reports

  • Manage staffing requirements and departmental workloads

Annual Year-end Compensation Process

  • Oversee the year-end merit and incentive process including global administration of variable pay, reporting, and employee statements

  • Prepare analysis, recommendations, and related materials to support CEO and Executive team yearly compensation

  • Lead the executive compensation program review across all HOOPP sites and presents recommendations to the VP, Total Rewards and SVP, HR for review and approval

Market Research and Board reporting

  • Monitor market trends and evaluate external competitiveness of the company’s compensation programs, overseeing recommendations on salary range movement and annual merit increase budget to maintain HOOPP’s competitive position

  • Develops and maintains a professional relationship with peer pension plans regarding human resources issues and compensation

  • Remain current on compensation trends related to laws, market practice, and governance issues

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent combination or education and/or work experience.

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in compensation with general HR exposure, working in a fast-paced environment

  • Leadership and team building skills with 5-7 years of leadership experience

  • Proven experience in supporting compensation programs at a global scale

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) is an asset

  • CHRL Designation is an asset

  • Ability to establish strong working relationships

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment

  • Must be a quick learner and a creative thinker

  • Must possess excellent organizational/time management skills
