What is the opportunity?

RBC Cards is one of the leading credit card businesses in Canada and is a strong contributor to Canadian Banking’s revenues and profits. The business has grown tremendously in the last five years, driven by our strong suite of Credit Card products and innovative marketing efforts.

As the Director, Retail Credit Cards Acquisition, you will support the Senior Director, Credit Cards Acquisition in achieving the strategic, new account and operational performance objectives for the Retail Credit Cards portfolio of products.  You will be responsible for profitable portfolio and market share growth, with a specific focus on maximizing active account and balance growth for the portfolios. You will analyze portfolio and acquisition performance, market trends and forces, and in partnership with internal and external stakeholders develop innovative acquisition strategies and manage day to day activities for Retail Credit Card Acquisition.

Specifically, you are accountable for the end-to-end execution and integration of all retail strategies across all credit cards, while enhancing and ensuring consistency of the client experience across channels and client lifecycle. 

What will you do?

  • Lead the execution of retail (consumer) cards acquisition and develop strategies to grow the credit card book, with a focus on increases in new cards, core balances, improved active rate, and reduced attrition of existing client base.

  • Identify and evaluate new channels and opportunities to drive more profitable acquisition volume and, in concert with product and channel managers, innovate and improve current paradigms, strategies, financial and operating models to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities

  • Collaborate with key partners to complete campaign analytics & reassess priorities based on growth and profitability. Work with partners to maximize approval rates across all channels while maintaining active and profitable accounts.

  • You will lead a team in strategic execution and optimization of marketing investment across internal and external channels

  • Report and present acquisition results, insights and strategies at Cards Monthly Business Review and other senior executive forums.

  • Ad Hoc duties as assigned.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • University degree

  • Experience in/knowledge of credit card industry

  • Experience in/knowledge of credit card acquisition

  • Ability to handle multiple initiatives with changing priorities

  • Strategic business sense with planning and implementation capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and integrate information from multiple sources to solve  complex issues

  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills

  • Ability to implement strategy and vision for sustainable growth

  • Understands business risks and exhibits sound judgment and decision-making capabilities

  • Equally effective and conversant in business and technical environments with strong collaboration, negotiation, and influencing skills

  • Creative problem-solving skills with focus on efficient execution while balancing big-picture thinking
