Director, Benefits & Wellbeing Strategy

The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Global benefits and retirement leader who exhibits a passion for the development and execution of organizational wellness strategies, particularly in the area of mental health and embracing the future of work. This position is accountable to lead, identify, create, manage, and embed  Wellbeing for the organization with consideration to local market practices, effective management, oversight, and day-to-day administration. The mandate includes program design, communication, process, insights, and governance efforts across worldwide offices to ensure Ontario Teachers’ remains competitive and aligned with our wellbeing philosophy. This role will manage and conduct research and benchmark studies for programs globally, maintaining a pulse on the external market. This role collaborates closely with colleagues throughout the organization and across global offices to ensure the delivery of high quality, holistic health wellness and retirement programs that are in alignment with our Wellbeing purpose, goals, priorities. They are also responsible and accountable for the effective delivery of the programs, operational and resource management, budget and financial administration, identifying future trends and opportunities, and compliance to ensure that all statutory and regulatory standards are consistently met.

Who you'll work with

As a member of our award-winning People & Culture team, reporting to the Managing Director, Global Total Rewards, you will partner with the People & Culture Business Partners and global senior leaders to build and implement high quality, holistic health wellness and retirement programs that are aligned with our Wellbeing purpose, goals, priorities. You will also have responsibility for a small team of hardworking Wellness professionals.

What you'll do

  • Provides strategy and thought leadership to the direction of Wellbeing programs for Teachers’.

  • Recommends and implements wellbeing programs, in alignment with the Wellbeing Strategy

  • Coordinates and leads planning efforts which includes third-party benchmarking and tapping into global external trends/insights to identify gaps and support recommendations.

  • Partners and collaborates with cross functional teams to see opportunities for enhanced engagement or entrepreneurial ventures to support the health and wellness of employees.

  • Manages all aspects of an employee-focused wellness initiatives including program design, employee communications and program administration.

  • Handles health, life, retirement, and time off programs and policies across 6+ countries including contract renewals, administration, relationships.

  • Empowers, develops and leads a small team of Wellness professionals and provides coaching to the broader Global Total Rewards team.

  • Coordinates communications and marketing efforts associated with all aspects of programming including website, print and social media.

  • Prepares quarterly updates and annual executive report that summarize initiatives, outcomes and value.

  • Manages relevant external providers (benchmarking, benefit design consultants, etc.)

  • Performs continuous cost and productivity analyses of wellbeing program initiatives.

What you'll need

  • University degree, preferably in health sciences or related field

  • 10 years of Global benefit and retirement experience; additional experience considered an asset which may include: future of work, office redesign, broader total rewards, safe business travel and employee mobility, HRIS or crisis management

  • Deep technical knowledge of benefit and retirement practices, processes, and policies

  • Current and evolving knowledge of Wellbeing approaches, global trends, issues, and market leading practices in workplace health promotion and health care & retirement programs including the design, development and direction of related programs and services

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a constantly evolving environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy, attention to detail and timeliness.

  • Strong business judgement used to understand business strategies, competitive challenges and the financial impact of HR decisions

  • Strategic innovative thinking and decision-making skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused mind-set are crucial

  • Solutions focused with a simple and practical approach

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to address individual perspectives of those you are advising

  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement short-and long-term strategic objectives; motivate and develop staff; effectively lead resources; and cultivate strong collaborative relationships.

  • Executive presence with  comfort presenting, articulating strategy and points of view from both in front and behind the scenes.

  • Demonstrable experience in change management principles related to global strategy development and implementation

  • Demonstrated commitment to creating a Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive workplace culture
