CTV News is looking for an experienced digital journalist to join our national editorial team. If you thrive on breaking news, want to be on the leading edge of stories Canadians are talking about and work with a team of young, energetic writers, we want you to apply.

CTVNews.ca is a top news publisher, reaching one of the biggest audiences in Canada. You will be working alongside some of Canada's top award-winning journalists who cover the world’s biggest stories.
 

Position: Digital Writer-Producer
Location: 9 Channel Nine Court, Toronto
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Overtime as required

Responsibilities:

  • Writing several news stories each day and updating them with the latest information from a variety of sources, with remote work possible across Canada
  • Pitching ideas, researching, conducting interviews for original reporting
  • Compiling, editing, publishing staff and wire stories, photos, videos, following editorial standards, with an eye to SEO 
  • Ensuring all copy published is free of typos and grammatical errors
  • Interpret a wide range of sources, including social posts, government statements, press releases and court rulings
  • Work closely with local newsrooms and CTV News producers to extend general broadcast content on the website, and extend web-based content into the TV environment

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Journalism 
  • 3+ years experience in a digital news environment
  • Must have strong editorial and news judgment, with an excellent command of the English language
  • Experience writing quick and accurate breaking news copy 
  • The ability to write engaging headlines that make readers want more
  • Familiarity with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law
  • Ability to work under constant tight deadlines, with strong time management skills
  • An understanding of newsroom management systems (e.g. iNews, etc.) is an asset
