About the Team:
At Scotiabank, research is a key driver of our Global Equity platform. Our top-ranked Research team generates a range of publications including daily company-specific investment views, monthly and quarterly sector updates, in-depth fundamental research reports, portfolio analysis and recommendations, and equity strategy commentary.
Position Highlights:
The Desktop Publisher supports the Equity Research Analyst teams in the distribution and production of their research. The role is responsible for providing coverage support to the Daily Research team; formatting Equity Research publications; providing creative support to the department; and printing and shipping research reports.
Accountabilities:
- Formats and lays out reports and presentations authored by Equity Research analysts.
- Ensures layout guidelines are maintained, styles are enforced, and corporate branding standards are adhered to.
- Applies layout expertise to the creation of report covers, PowerPoint presentations, Excel graphics, custom graphics, and departmental collateral.
- Sources images and ensures that appropriate rights are secured for use in research reports and collateral.
- Provides technical and system support to analysts, associates, and team members, as required.
- Prints and binds research reports using the Xerox Versant 80 Colour Press. Troubleshoots printer issues or follows up with Xerox technical support.
- Proactively reaches out to internal customers to determine distribution requirements for all hard copy research reports.
- Acts as primary contact with print vendors, ensuring that print products are delivered on time and to the expected quality.
- Acts as primary coverage to the Daily Research Team to ensure seamless distribution of intraday research.
- Reviews and distributes research electronically to clients, websites, and third-party aggregators.
- Provides research distribution coverage for early morning and late evening shifts during times of absences and heavy volumes.
- Accurately completes online and third-party aggregator checks.
- Meets tight deadlines and ensures timely turnaround of research publications.
- Adheres to compliance policies and procedures, including completing project dockets.
- Supports departmental multi-media requirements, including podcasts, video, and audio post-production.
- Provides layout and production training for new hires and ensures relevant training materials are updated on the internal website.
- Participates in the publishing team’s quarterly audit.
- Works directly with Equity Research analyst teams to identify improvements to product layout.
Qualifications:
- Relevant university or college degree in graphic design, publishing, communications, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Expertise in formatting publications in Word and PowerPoint, and tables and charts in Excel.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Solid time- and project-management skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, to work well under pressure, and to multi-task.
- Ability to quickly learn to use in-house systems and technology, and to troubleshoot issues.
- Ability to set priorities and work to short deadlines.
- Ability to follow processes and procedures.
- Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) is an asset.
- Experience using content management systems, working under the Agile project management methodology, and familiarity with equity research compliance procedures would be assets.
- Technical expertise with Xerox colour presses.
