General Accountability

Provides architectural design services for Capital and Operating projects associated with the various maintenance, alteration, and rehabilitation work carried out on the TTC buildings and properties, utilizing standard architectural engineering methods; prepares designs, drawings, estimates, material lists, specifications, standards and work methods for architectural work related to rehabilitation projects, maintenance work or new construction; provides technical assistance to TTC trades personnel as required.

Key Job Functions

  • Design, prepare and review detailed contract and proposal drawings, specifications, standards, proposal submissions, applications, building and mechanical permits, purchase requisitions and authorizations.
  • Coordinate and liaise as primary contact with user groups and Materials and Procurement department through contract scope development, preparation, tender and award phases; provide design co-ordination with relevant sections.
  • Prepare requests for proposal, evaluate proposal submissions, recommend contract awards; supervise consultants during all contract phases; review/confirm completion of consultant work, coordinate reviewing and commenting on consultants' deliverables.
  • Ensure design submissions and lessee design proposals conform with established material and construction standards; evaluate materials being considered for TTC use; develop alternative solutions; coordinate contract commissioning/deficiency inspections.
  • Provide architectural support and guidance regarding drawings, specifications, material lists, quantity estimations, troubleshooting and recommending solutions; provide technical support for projects, existing installations, or during construction phase.

  • Candidate will be required to participate in the TTC's customer service Ambassador Program

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a post secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • A Licence with the O.A.A as an Architect or a Licence with the O.A.A.A.S. as an Architectural Technologist (or membership in either the O.A.A. or O.A.A.A.S working toward full licensure.

Additional Requirements

  • Sound knowledge of architectural design principles, methods, procedures, practices and measurements
  • Sound knowledge of mathematics, research procedures and code regulations applicable to architectural technology
  • Must possess proven technical design skills; well-developed organizational, analytical and problem solving skills; effective verbal communication and technical report writing skills
  • Must have sound judgement and the ability to co-ordinate the efforts of others during assignments
  • Must be proficient in, and keep up to date with relevant computer software such as MicroStation CAD, MS Office Suite
  • Good knowledge of the applicable codes/practices/standards (e.g. Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, TTC standards, CSA standards, OH&S Act etc.), as well as the various functions carried out by the Plant Maintenance department
  • Must have knowledge of the practices and procedures utilized by the Plant Maintenance department trades group
  • Must exercise initiative when selecting materials and/or construction/repair details, solving operational problems and in prioritizing own work in order to avoid delays
  • A valid non-probationary Class G driving license and use of own or TTC vehicle for emergency trades support
