General Accountability
Provides full, professional architectural design services on work associated with TTC facilities; ensures technical accuracy, compliance with all relevant codes, adequacy of design, safety, constructability, maintainability, cost effectiveness, and timely completion of documents.
Key Job Functions
• Direct and check the work of Architectural Technologists and Design Draftspersons, and any other assigned support staff.
• Evaluate and verify code compliance for new and existing facilities. Conduct regular construction site field reviews and submit reports as required by permit and codes. Prepare deficiency reports.
• Develop technical, preliminary and pre-design reports, including schematic designs. Develop and prepare work plans including coordinating input and staff assignments. Act as design lead where assigned, and develop and prepare full contract documentation.
• Provide architectural design support to the Operations Group departments as required.
• Develop and update design standards and master specifications, including directive and standard drawings, and design manual updates.
• Conduct design and development reviews.
• Check, sign and seal documentation where appropriate, and where required.

Education and Experience
• Completion of a university degree in Architecture, or the equivalent, combined with several years of experience in architectural design facilities.
• Licensed Architect in good standing with the Ontario Association of Architects (with eligibility for a professional seal)
• Experience in the transit facility design field considered an asset.
Additional Requirements
• Sound knowledge of architectural design principles, methods and practices.
• Knowledge of design, specifications, construction and contracting techniques.
• Knowledge of municipal and provincial planning and zoning requirements and processes, and familiarity with national and provincial construction related standards, codes, and statutes as they relate to the transit system and its facilities.
• Familiarity with budgeting procedures and practices.
• Strong working knowledge of CADD and a good working knowledge of related computer software i.e. MicroStation, Photoshop, and also MS Office applications.
