Frito-Lay Canada has an opening at the Cambridge, Ontario facility for a Controls Specialist. The Controls Specialist is a key support role challenged with developing controls competence, programs, and procedures. The role is designed to take ownership of the entire plant controls network working within the maintenance department and act as the site Lead Controls Expert/Integrator. The role also provides a technical point of contact for the site to coach and develop technicians/Resources and lead the sites controls agenda. The controls lead is an active part of the Maintenance department management team.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the Controls team and Support the Electrical department development
- Act as a Cambridge site Controls specialist/integrator to boost overall site competency and reduce reliance on third party integrator support
- Support and coach electricians with controls related trouble shooting efforts in the field
- Create and implement controls related training for the site
- Develop highly technical and engaged C&IS roles
- Develop and sustain a control program for the site
- Develop sustainable practices for electricians to share information and speed up trouble shooting efforts
- Provide assessments of how electricians are progressing and the site as a whole against the controls agenda
- Highlight concerns with equipment and/or projects to Project Engineers, Reliability team, and Technical Mgr
- Propose and develop projects/C.A.R.’s that will increase reliability of the site through controls
- Develop systems and databases that will help track changes
- Work with Project Engineering team to ensure adequate support is available for all projects
- Ensure Controls related work orders are scheduled and completed in a timely manner
Qualifications
Skills & Knowledge Required:
- Strong working knowledge of Controls and electrical engineering/maintenance processes
- Extensive knowledge of the equipment and processes required to make product
- Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLC5, 500 and Control Logix
- Solid understanding of motor control and VFD operations
- Experience with category III and IV Safety Circuits
- Experience with different communication protocols DH+, RIO, ASI, ControlNet, Ethernet, Profibus, DeviceNET
- Proficiency in Wonderware and FactoryTalk View, RSView ME/SE Visualization software
- Understanding of Industrial Ethernet networks on a large scale
- Solid understanding of servers and databases to support IT/Server Room
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Education
- University Degree or College Diploma in Electrical/Software/Process Engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in maintenance or operations group trouble shooting field control issues with strong demonstrated Competency
- Previous controls or programming experience coupled with mechanical and electrical knowledge
- Demonstrated credibility among Maintenance team
- Demonstrated engagement and excellent attendance track record
