We're looking for a Communications Specialist to support both external and internal communications with a focus on the overall Shoppers Drug Mart business, including Health & Wellness. What you'll do
External Communications:
Create media materials and handle document approval and translation processes
Review and disseminate daily media monitoring, including research and analysis of competitor and industry announcements and media coverage
Proactively pitch to and work with healthcare, corporate and business media
Manage influencer relations (both paid and earned)
PR Event coordination & management
Support the PR mailbox and manage various in-bound media requests, assessing each for merits and priority
Support the business to promote over 1350 retail locations from coast to coast
Social media content development for various platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Other duties as required
Occasional evenings & weekends as required
Internal Communications:
Deliver and provide counsel for internal communication across all areas of health, beauty and convenience
Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that support the overall strategic direction and priorities of the business.
Develop, pitch, research and write content for internal audiences using various formats and internal communication channels, including our intranet site (fl!p), our internal social media platform (Viva Engage), email, text message, town halls and internal conferences.
Lead editorial planning, content development, layout and consistent distribution of several regular publications – including a weekly internal e-newsletter and a quarterly employee profile series.
Support planning of internal events – from town halls to conferences – assisting with internal promotion, creative materials, and logistics.
Gather and analyze metrics to measure engagement and performance across all channels.
Other duties as required.
What you need
3-5 years’ experience in public and media relations and/or internal communications. Post graduate certificate or university degree in Communications/Public Relations is an asset.
Highly organized, resourceful, and responsive to short-notice needs, with strong attention to detail and well-developed analytical skills.
Keen sense of storytelling, paired with superior writing and editing skills. This includes the ability to easily switch between creative writing/storytelling and tactical writing.
Confident with an ability to manage and prioritize many projects at the same time and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Skilled in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Knowledge of Adobe, InDesign, Illustrator, Canva, Photoshop and relevant imaging software is an asset.
Agency experience and existing relationships with key Canadian media are an asset.
