We are now recruiting for a Chief Privacy Officer and Legal Counsel to join our team. The role is currently working in a hybrid structure with days in the office at our headquarters located in Burnaby, BC. Apply this week if you would like to take on this role.

Privacy
This role is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring PBC appropriately manages its privacy obligations by enabling the business to be clear about the privacy risks and impacts.
In this role you would act as the Chief Privacy Officer and carry out the privacy function ensuring PBC has appropriate practices and controls in place regarding personal information, responding to privacy inquiries, information access request, and issues with potential breaches.
This role liaises with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC and any other external stakeholders regarding privacy issues.
You would lead the Privacy Function on management committees and identify areas to improved processes and operational efficiency. You would also lead the incident response team.
In this role you would conduct Privacy Impact Assessments to help assess new or redesigned operational activities and would identify ways to improve Privacy Function processes.
This role would facilitate appropriate education and training on privacy issues for staff.
You would monitor and pro-actively provide advice on privacy trends and new or proposed regulatory requirements.
Legal
This role provides practical legal advice and guidance relating to privacy issues.
In this role you would act as a resources on enterprise projects to support business units while managing legal and regulatory risks.
Relationship Building and Professional Development
You would build and maintain internal business relationships and pursue opportunities to build external networks.
The role maintains current knowledge on privacy governance, legislative trends, and best practices.
Key Experiences You Bring To This Role
- Law degree (J.D. or LLB) and membership in good standing with active practice status in the Law Society of British Columbia, or another law society in Canada with the ability to become called in British Columbia
- Recognized designations in privacy
- A minimum of ten years’ experience practicing law in insurance, privacy, financial services, or related field
- Excellent knowledge of privacy legislation, principles, and practices
- Practical understanding of operational risks and mitigation strategies applicable to the insurance and/or financial institution industry
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office software, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong legal skills, business acumen, leadership skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills
