Background:
As a member of the Maintenance Group, you will work effectively with others in a team environment, apply problem-solving methodologies and demonstrate a continuous improvement orientation by seeking new innovative methods of maintaining the equipment. Electricians are for ensuring the reliability of our production facilities which includes daily preventative maintenance tasks, shift call breakdown response as well as shutdown prep/post work.
Responsibilities:
As an Electrician, the functions will include the ability to troubleshoot, inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust, and maintain all electrical equipment within the department. The successful candidate will be part of a mechanical /electrical team performing mainly electrical maintenance functions with mechanical trade assist as on required basis.
- Receive work orders, instructions, or wiring diagrams. Inspect and make tests, interpret results, consult wiring diagrams, and determine material or replacement needs according to specifications.
- Plan work procedures, determining tools and material requirements. Locate source of trouble in any type of electrical equipment or apparatus by tracing and testing circuits and inspection for mechanical failure
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, replace, or adjust faulty parts and wiring on electrical equipment, switches, circuit breakers, transformers, hydraulic and magnetic brakes, panel boards, resistance banks, battery tractors and starters and electronic equipment.
- Rewire, insulate, paint, and reassembles equipment, completing adjustments required to obtain proper operating characteristics.
- Make certain mechanical repairs to equipment being serviced including the replacement, repair and installation of sleeve and antifriction bearings, gears, shafts, pins, etc.
- Fabricate parts as required, using shop machine and hand tools.
- Perform work requiring a thorough working knowledge of mechanical and electrical principle and techniques, knowledge of properties of material and ability to use tools of the trade.
- Create PLC Code changes, forces & improvements as required.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 442A or 309A Electrician Certificate of Qualification
- Advanced trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills an asset.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Candidates must be willing and able to work at heights.
- Capable of physically demanding work (both indoors and outdoors)
- Self-starter with the ability to follow directions and work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Advanced personal computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Must have a Valid Ontario Driver’s license.
Hours of Work
- 12-hour rotating shift schedule with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads. Shift schedule will include nights and weekends.
- Shift work for shutdowns and occasional shift relief coverage.
- Must be willing to be available for emergency call in support.
- Potential rotating on call coverage for trade within the business unit.
- Must be prepared for a quick turnaround in scheduling as required by critical work.
Work Environment:
- Heavy industrial environment
- Depending on the area of the plant use of respirators, fresh air breathing apparatus and standard plant safety equipment may also be required.
- Exposure to noise, heights, confined spaces, lighting conditions, materials, products, and by-products associated with the manufacture of steel, temperature and weather extremes that require the use of specialized protective devices or equipment.
- Required to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding to access elevations, able to crouch for periods of time, push, pull, lift and turn while carrying tools, material and equipment in various parts of the facilities.
