Job Description Summary

The UBC Science Co-op Program assists qualified Science students in securing work placements with employers as part of their education experience. The Science Co-op Program offers a supportive and positive work culture; this position is part of a dedicated team that is passionate about student success.  The key role for this position is to assist with developing new job opportunities within the Life Sciences and other sectors relevant to the Science Co-op Program and providing exceptional account management service. By receiving guidance and mentorship from the Business Development Manager, the incumbent will work independently to assist with sourcing prospective employers, following up on new job opportunities and reporting marketing results on a weekly basis.


Organizational Status

Reports to the Business Development Manager and will be working closely with individual program coordinators to identify the areas of needs.

Work Performed

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Conducting market research to source potential employers and suitable job opportunities

- Promoting the program and explaining the Co-op job placement process to new and existing employers via telephone, email and virtual platforms (eg. Zoom, Teams)

- Sourcing and securing suitable job opportunities through outbound prospecting

- Facilitating hiring process with employers from start to finish

- Achieving program goals and weekly targets

- Maintaining up-to-date records and contacts in the Co-op database

- Ensuring accurate and up-to-date data entry of job postings into the Co-op database

- Assisting with recruitment email campaigns

- Assisting with coordination of relevant industry recruitment events with on- and off-campus partners

- Attending industry-specific career fairs, information sessions, professional association events on- and off-campus

- Generating Co-op program reports as needed

- Other administrative tasks as related

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The position represents the Faculty of Science and its Co-op program, the students and the University. Incorrect decisions would adversely affect the reputation of its stakeholders which would prevent it from achieving its targets. The reputation of other UBC Co-op and career programs and of the Faculty and the university generally would also be harmed by poor decisions. Failure to deliver effective and timely service to employers could result in loss of industry support, which would seriously damage the program. All Science Co-op employees are required to follow UBC s information security policies and procedures. Failure to do so may result in a serious information security breach, which will cause harm to the University and third parties.



Supervision Received

Reports to the Business Development Manager. Works independently within the Program’s policy and administrative framework. Also collaborates with respective Coordinators, Program Assistants and Business Development Assistant.

Supervision Given

No supervision given to other staff.

Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation, plus two year post-secondary diploma, plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

·       Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline is preferred

·       Related co-op or marketing experience preferred

·       Business development, client service or sales experience required

·       Commitment to delivering client-focused service and high level of professionalism

·       Demonstrates thoroughness, accuracy, and exceptional attention to detail

·       High proficiency in computer systems, digital platforms and tools (eg. Microsoft Office, LinkedIn)

·       Excellent verbal and written communications

·       Demonstrates strong email and time management abilities with a diligent, proactive and self-motivated approach to work

·       Exhibits persistence and a strong commitment to achieving goals

·       Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
