Your Opportunity
An opportunity exists for a Bridge Engineering Intern in our Markham Bridge Team as a part of the Transportation Group. Our group is growing and consists of about 40 multi-disciplined staff who are involved in the planning and design of roads and bridges. Our Bridge Team focuses on the design, rehabilitation, and inspection of roadway, railway, and pedestrian bridges for various owners including Federal Bridge, Metrolinx, MTO, regions, and municipalities. These projects encompass the entire life of the facility – from feasibility studies through detailed design and construction oversight. Your Key Responsibilities
As a Bridge Engineering Intern in our Markham Transportation Group, you will be responsible for assisting bridge engineers and design team in the following areas:
- Execution and delivery of projects including planning, preliminary design, detail design, and providing engineering services during construction.
- Performing modelling, structural analysis and load evaluation of a variety of transportation structures.
- Development of structural rehabilitation and replacement strategies, completing design for a variety of transportation structures.
- Preparation of contract drawings and documentations, design details, and reports for various bridge types and other transportation structures.
- Collaboration with colleagues within the bridge team and with other disciplines.
- Undertaking visual inspections and assessing condition of bridge, culvert, and other structures.
- Quantity calculations and cost estimates.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Knowledge of relevant bridge design codes, particularly CHBDC and AREMA.
- Knowledge of MTO practice manuals, standards, and policies.
- Experience with structural modeling using software such as S-Frame, SAP2000, CSiBridge, or equivalent.
- Experience in structural visual inspections.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Enthusiastic attitude with interest in skills development and continual improvement.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Education and Experience
Degree in Civil Engineering focusing on structural engineering, bridge background an asset, with preference for individuals with or working towards registration as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) and a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
