Job Description:
Reporting to the Manager of IS Business Continuity Services, the Backup System Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance and design of the company’s backup infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility for managing/maintaining all backup infrastructure
- Manage the backup and replication systems
- Project Management duties as assigned
- Perform all file and server restorations
- Troubleshoot complex issues and provide solutions
- Monthly backup server patching
- Experience with enterprise level tool sets related to monitoring
- Quarterly recoveries per SOX request
Technical Skills and Experience:
At least 2 – 3 years of experience in the following:
- Enterprise backup solutions
- DELL/EMC Networker – Preferred
- VEEAM - Preferred
- Windows 2012 R2 and newer
- Linux OS and proficiency with command line
- Networking skills: IP routing, DHCP/DNS, VPN
- Cloud Technologies experience (AWS or Azure
- System performance monitoring and remediation actions (Backup infrastructure)
- Hardware diagnosis and repair
- Backup system server patching
- Knowledge of SAN technology basics
- Knowledge of Disaster Recovery policies and procedures
- Working knowledge of advanced networking topics
- Understanding of relational database concepts and applications considered an asset
Educational Requirements and Personal Characteristics:
- Degree/diploma/certification in computer systems and infrastructure/networking
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills plus the ability to recommend solutions
- Proven time management and organizational skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
- Ability to interact successfully with all levels of the organization
- Work well with a team of peers and other technical professionals
- Flexible, proactive approach and the ability to work under pressure, adjusting priorities and work schedules, as necessary, to meet project deadlines
- Must be a self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong work ethic
Work Environment:
The Backup Administrator’s position is based out of Calgary or Minneapolis offices. This position requires participation in after-hours, on-call rotation support and requires the employee to be available 24x7x365 for emergency problem escalation.
