Within the Finance group, the Financial Markets Accounting, Disclosure and Accounting Standards team is a strategic group responsible for producing the financial information for the Financial Markets division, providing advisory services regarding accounting standards and for generating the Bank’s external and public financial disclosures.
Reporting to the VP, Chief Accountant, the incumbent will oversee the accounting team of the Financial Markets division. The incumbent will act as an accounting standards expert and play a key role in assessing the accounting implications of complex projects and transactions. They will also coordinate the production and development of the Bank’s external and public financial information in compliance with IFRS standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure sound management of the Financial Markets Accounting, Disclosure and Accounting Standards team in order to create a productive and motivating work environment. Comply with applicable legislation, policies, programs and procedures, evaluate the team’s performance and guide the professional development of each member.
- Manage and coordinate the Bank’s financial reporting process, including the quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements, management reports and other financial communications to external stakeholders.
- Oversee the production of monthly results for the Financial Markets division and the brokerage subsidiaries under their responsibility.
- Coordinate the annual audit and quarterly review engagements of the brokerage subsidiaries under their responsibility.
- Suggest and implement initiatives to standardize and simplify the financial information processes under their responsibility and act as a key contributor to financial process optimization.
- Coordinate the analysis and documentation of complex accounting issues, including banking activities, financial instruments and IT projects, as well as conducting normative and accounting analyses.
- Participate in ad hoc projects for which accounting expertise is required and act as an advisor to the Finance management team in matters relating to their expertise.
- Monitor changes to IFRS standards and disclosure guidelines issued by regulatory authorities (including the Autorité des marchés financiers and the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions).
- Collaborate with external auditors on the Bank’s financial accounting and external disclosure requests.
Education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and professional designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), auditor designation.
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience (financial accounting with a publicly accountable company or a financial institution, or equivalent experience in one of the four major audit firms), including a minimum of 8 years of experience in personnel management.
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS accounting standards.
- Accounting expertise related to banking activities and financial instruments.
