What is the opportunity?
The Associate Director, Operational Risk Practices supports the execution and establishment of assigned methodologies for universal operational risk practices and tools, such as: Issue Management, Internal Operational Risk Events (OREs), and other operational risk practices.
What will you do?
- Support the implementation of RBC’s Operational Risk Management (ORM) strategy, objectives for operational risk management practices across RBC and maintenance and enhancement of the ORM Framework with a specific focus on Issue Management.
- Responsible for monitoring adherence to policies, standards, procedures and frameworks related to Issue Management, while ensuring alignment to regulatory guidance and industry best practices
- Support the Three Lines of Defense Model for Operational Risk Management across RBC; drive a growth mindset to embed Operational Risk across the enterprise
- Contribute to the design and implementation of governance standards and processes supporting the Three Lines of Defense model
- Provide subject matter expertise and oversight to distributed implementation of assigned ORM Practices, i.e., Issues Management and others as assigned within business and functional units, geographies and legal entities within RBC
- Exercise appropriate policy adherence for assigned ORM Practices in alignment with enterprise level requirements as a Second Line of Defense
- Support the Reporting & Analytics team in producing reporting that conveys complete, accurate, timely and actionable information regarding RBC’s operational risk profile
- Build relationships with stakeholders, ensuring that employees understand ORM’s strategy and vision, and support and reinforce targeted behaviors that contribute to RBC’s goals
- Promote a strong culture of control awareness and risk mitigation across RBC
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
- BA or equivalent with a focus in business, accounting, finance or related field, professional designation associated with risk management is preferred
- 5+ years of experience in financial services industry, with at least three years in an operational risk management, internal audit, or compliance role. Strong knowledge of current operational risk practices
- Experience working in a matrixed environment, and ability to coordinate with a large group of stakeholders
- Good impact and influence skills
- Strong problem solving, analytical (including qualitative analysis), research, and quantitative skills
- Ability to assimilate and interpret information covering a wide range of differing business areas and regulatory dimensions
