The Department of Cognitive Science invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary (tenure-track) appointment in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning January 1, 2025.
The candidate must demonstrate excellence in research in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience, with expertise in preschool and early childhood learning from both brain and behavioural perspectives. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience from an interdisciplinary perspective at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
We seek an individual with strong research skills, an awareness of the importance of EDI considerations in early education, and an in-depth knowledge of brain mechanisms in child development and learning. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise conducting research globally and working in interdisciplinary teams. We are looking for a candidate with proven experience in knowledge dissemination and with working directly with stakeholder groups.
The candidate is expected to have a desire to promote interest in our students, particularly those in underrepresented groups, in careers in Cognitive Science.
About the Academic Unit
The Department of Cognitive Science offers programs at the undergraduate, post baccalaureate, Masters, and Ph.D. levels, with outstanding research expertise in a wide range of topics in Cognitive Science. For more information, please see our website at carleton.ca/cognitivescience.
Our programs include approximately 600 undergraduate and 45 graduate students. The undergraduate program is the second largest in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- PhD in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience or a closely related
- Excellent experience in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the discipline and on
- Demonstrated teaching excellence in Cognitive
- Demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching contributions at introductory and advanced
- Excellent track record of research output that demonstrates potential for independent
- Demonstrated potential for innovative and scholarly research and the ability to develop an externally funded, high quality research
- Excellent ability to contribute to the academic life of the
DESIRED
- Interest in supporting experiential learning activities for undergraduate
- High potential for collaborative research with existing members of the
