Purpose
The mandate of the Security Operations Centre is to ensure the safety and security of Scotiabank’s people, customers, and assets, as well as mitigating operational, financial, reputational risks. The Security Operation Centre has widespread accountabilities including the oversight and co-ordination of the collection and dissemination of global real time and near real time information regarding emergencies, threats, vulnerabilities, incidents, and issues, to generate a common operating picture (COP) and overall situational awareness (SA) amongst key bank decision makers.
Accountabilities
1. Incident Management
• Leads/supports the ongoing collection of data from various systems used in the analysis of efficiency and performance of day-to-day operations.
• Use established criteria to categorize and process low to medium complexity information of relevance to security risk. Disseminate information through verbal and written incident notifications, summary reports and/or data analytics.
• Track and report on the international movement of Canadian based Scotiabank staff worldwide, to provide them with detailed information on security threats and potential travel disruptions that will allow them to mitigate risks.
• Manage data integrity checks, identify discrepancies, and undertake resolution where necessary to ensure data reliability.
• Streamline the creation of regular reporting, with a view to increase efficiency and transparency of operations
• Provide benchmarking analysis of the Bank’s reporting process and performance metrics.
• Design and develop methods to integrate data and reporting in a meaningful way
2. Support Services – Provide support and promote efficiency for the Security Operations Centre:
• Active participation in Security Operations Centre role in key Physical Security/Bank initiatives by supporting technology implementation and ongoing management of systems, processes, and relationships.
• Support the ongoing maintenance of standards, processes and procedures for all activities/tasks associated with incident management including (but not limited to):
o Alarm monitoring
o Travel tracking
o Incident detection/escalation
o Emergency communications
o Photo and video retrieval
o Access control
• Support the implementation and maintenance of systems used in the prevention, detection, analysis, and response to physical security incidents.
3. Contribute to achieving the goals of the Security Operation Centre/Corporate Security
• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Manage and participate in projects as instructed by the Senior Management of Security Operations
• Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Education & Skills:
- High degree of fluency in English required; French/Spanish desirable.
- Incident Management Systems (IMS 100 & 200) and Basic Emergency Management (BEM) desirable
- College diploma or University degree in security, law or law enforcement and/or degree in an analytics/mathematics related field preferred
- Possess excellent analytical skills to properly support the data management and reporting activities with an ability to grasp new concepts quickly.
- Thorough knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBi etc.) to access/create databases and generate sophisticated graphs/charts/reports
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, research, compile, and present relevant statistics for report development.
- Developed writing skills sufficient to prepare written materials involving detailed descriptions and explanations requiring the accurate use of specialized terminology to effectively communicate information. Experience designing and developing operational reporting capability to be delivered to executive level management
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from all levels in Scotiabank providing users support as well as when interacting with stakeholders, sufficient to convey factual and conceptual information on issues requiring detailed explanation and interpretation.
- Self-planning skills to schedule, organize, and carry out work assignments according to established work plans, adjusting work schedules according to changing priorities.
