The Opportunity:

We have a new opportunity for you to join our Earth and Environment group as an Archaeology Field Technician based out of our Greater Toronto Area offices.  As part of our Archaeology Team, you will be involved in various stages of archaeological fieldwork from Stage 2 surveys to Stage 4 excavations primarily in southern Ontario.  Note that this is a  seasonal position for the 2023 field season, starting in the spring of 2023.

Please be advised that LIUNA has been certified by the Labour Relations Board to bargain on behalf of persons in the above-noted position.  The parties have entered into a collective bargaining agreement and any candidate who is hired into the noted role will be kept informed of any changes to the terms and conditions of their employment because of that process.

A day in the life:

 As an Archaeological Field Technician on our team you will:

  •  Complete archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced Field Supervisor, including Stage 2 surveys (field walking and test pitting); Stage 3 assessments; and Stage 4 excavations.
  • Work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions.
  • Support Field Supervisors and provide assistance where needed.
  • Participate in a team environment providing support to other field technicians and assisting with field activities as required.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical and professional behavior and demonstrate a “Safety First” focus and act as a role model to other staff.

 What you’ll bring to WSP:

  •  Minimum 4 months of archaeological field experience (or the successful completion of a recognized archaeological field school)
  • You enjoy fieldwork and like to work in a team environment – think the opposite of your standard 9-5 desk job!
  • Willingness to travel within Ontario with overnight stays during out-of-town projects.
  • You’ve got access to a vehicle and a clean Driver’s Abstract.
