The Opportunity:

 

WSP has a new opportunity for Archaeological Field Technicians with proven experience in British Columbia for the 2023 Field Season.  These are contract positions based in Vancouver.
 
Fieldwork will be located throughout British Columbia and is scheduled to begin mid-April and end early to mid-November. This may be extended or shortened depending on changing schedules and/or weather conditions.

A day in the life:

As an Archaeological Field Technician your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out archaeological survey, test excavation and mitigative excavation in cultural resources management under the direction of the Field Supervisor and in compliance with Heritage Conservation Act permits;
  • Working with Indigenous community members in a respectful and collaborative manner;
  • Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff and participating in WSP Health & Safety program;
  • Maintaining a high standard of ethical behavior to uphold WSP reputation and demonstrate a commitment to our Core Values;
  • Working in a variety of environments, such as all-weather conditions, rugged and semi-remote locations, and overnight accommodations in a camp or hotel setting;
  • Performing other duties as required, including but not limited to, artifact analysis, reporting, and research.

 

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • Archaeology, Anthropology or related Degree from a recognized program or nearing completion;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with Indigenous representatives;
  • Basic knowledge of British Columbia archaeology would be an asset;
  • Able to work in varying terrain and weather conditions;
  • Ability to do strenuous field work, including hiking in uneven terrain, carrying heavy loads and manual excavating;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • Ability to take direction and work in both a team environment and independently;
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5) and an ability to mobilize to local project sites or the office;
  • First Aid Certification would be considered an asset.
