The Opportunity:
WSP has a new and exciting opportunity for an Archaeological Field Supervisor to join our Heritage team in our Kelowna, BC location for the 2023 Field Season. This position is ideal for someone who is looking to gain Field Director in Training days in a variety of settings. WSP Field Directors and Project Staff will work closely with you to find opportunities which supports your journey to becoming a Field Director in the Interior Plateau culture area.

A day in the life:
As an Archaeological Field Supervisor your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out archaeological survey, test excavation or mitigative excavation in cultural resources management under the direction of the Field Crew Supervisor and in compliance with Heritage Conservation Act permits;
- Assisting with leading archaeological field programs;
- Participating in Indigenous community relationship-building;
- Undertaking analysis and preparing sections of technical reports;
- Supervising junior staff and Indigenous workers where appropriate;
- Working collaboratively with Indigenous community members in a respectful and collaborative manner;
- Participating in WSP’s Health & Safety program;
- Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff and complying with the WSP Fit for Duty Policy.
What you'll bring to WSP ...
- A degree in Archaeology or Anthropology or an undergraduate degree with equivalent experience
- Working towards your Field Director status in the BC Interior Plateau culture area
- Experience identifying, recording and evaluating the full range of archaeological site types expected in the BC Interior Plateau culture area
- Experience working with Indigenous Communities and Peoples. Preference will be given to candidates with positive relationships with First Nations in the Southern Interior area
- An ability and willingness to perform field work in a variety of weather conditions
- Proficiency with standard data collection equipment including GPS and hand-held tablets
- Proven oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- An ability to contribute to a positive teamwork environment as well as to work independently
- Solid MS Office skills
- Valid driver’s licence (Class 5)
- UTV and First Aid Certification would be considered an asset
