The RBC Aptitude Solutions Development team based in downtown Toronto and London, UK, and is part of a larger Finance IT development organization within RBC Technology and Operations group.
What will you do?
Responsible for development, maintenance and architecture activities based on business and system requirements, ensuring adherence to overall IT architectural direction.
Supports functional development lead on technical and management direction for strategic projects with a focus on the cross-divisional strategies.
Help prepare estimates and plans for changes/projects, tech currency items and system/product upgrades
Together with Project Manager and Functional/Technical Leads, determine best mix of development, interfacing applications, third party vendor solutions to meet business requirements and project objectives.
Contributes to successful project completion by identifying risks and developing/recommending mitigation strategies.
Identifies technical and business opportunities to take advantage of cross project knowledge, best practices and reusability to expedite projects.
Review all aspects of testing and verification ensuring all tasks are performed for all interfaces in adherence to Aptitude and T&O Standards.
Ensures adequate technical documentation is created for all work items.
Support all aspects of planning, development, and implementation through participation in change assessments, contributions to estimates and solution design, following agile methodologies/team agreements and best practices, etc.
Support database/disaster recovery planning.
Support performance tuning to improve performance.
Acts as IT liaison with multiple interfacing applications, 3rd party vendors, IT Executive and/or Project Managers.
Effectively communicates and builds rapport with team members, stakeholders and interface groups using a variety of techniques and collaboration from initiation to close.
Attend complex group meetings (including business partners) for technical design, decision making, problem solving, implementation and strategic planning.
Support preparation and delivery of presentations to business and technology partners, selecting the appropriate approach based on the audience.
Resolves conflicts/issues and escalates others as appropriate.
Continually enhances skills and builds knowledge in all aspects of the organization, the business and information systems.
What do you need to succeed?
Professional with experience on large projects/programs with multiple applications with multiple interfaces and/or 3rd parties
Broad understanding of ETL and RDBMS concepts
Applicability of different programming languages: Aptitude, PL/SQL, Shell Scripting, and a familiarity of Python and Java
Database Platforms: Oracle
IT Standards, Methodologies, CMM & audit requirements
Middleware technologies (e.g. JMS, BusinessWorks, DataStage)
Professional with experience in the banking and/or insurance sector
Practitioner and knowledge of Aptitude Product(s) or similar ETL toolset
