The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is a unique program of government tasked with the responsibility of preventing and managing unwanted wildfire on the landscape. Approximately 1,600 field workers – comprising technical experts, strategic thinkers, and fire operations staff – are dedicated to undertaking the BCWS mandate in delivering effective wildfire management and emergency response support to protect life and values at risk, encouraging sustainable, healthy and resilient ecosystems. 

The Team Lead - Communications provides operational leadership for provincial communications. This includes supporting the permanent communications officer and seasonal communications assistants with advice, guidance and interpretation of policy and procedures. This position is responsible for the development, planning and delivery of internal and external communications and public relations programs for the branch with a focus on day-to-day operations.

Kamloops is surrounded by over one hundred lakes as well as the North and South Thompson rivers. Water-based activities are very popular, such as fishing, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, tubing, skiing, snowmobiling, and ice-fishing. Kamloops has a very strong First Nations culture.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Post-secondary degree in Communications, Public Relations or a similar program and 3 years of related experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.
  • Experience in public relations, corporate communications or media relations in a large organization.
  • Experience working with partners in translating business needs into practical service delivery solutions.
  • Experience working in customer service delivery programs and working directly with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with emergency response experience.
  • Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) BC Driver’s Licence.
