This role sits within Laurentian Bank.

The agent is responsible for the work related to the fiscal year in terms of issuing tax slips and sending out all forms required by the various levels of the Canadian and U.S. governments. He/she must work closely with IT staff (internal and external) to ensure that tax slips are issued on the dates stipulated by law, and to request corrections to tax slips where necessary. The agent is the contact person for all levels of Canadian government and the U.S. government agency (IRS).

The agent works closely with various operations teams (e.g. registered plans, estate settlement, etc.) regarding the various slips to be filed.

The agent must ensure that all investment income or other types of events are properly generated to client accounts in accordance with the tax terms and conditions applicable to the products, as well as ensuring that any corrections are made.

He is responsible for remitting withholding taxes collected at source to the various levels of government in Canada and the United States. He/she is also responsible for reconciling these remittances.

In addition, the incumbent collaborates with his or her manager in setting up operational procedures and is responsible for ensuring the application of various internal and external policies.

Responsibilities
  • Reconcile daily and monthly tax control accounts
  • Ensure tax compliance of income remittances and payments throughout the tax year
  • Perform regular and non-resident tax remittances to Revenue Canada.
  • Remit US income tax to the IRS.
  • Ensure that procedures in the sector are kept up to date.

Responsible for work related to fiscal year-end

  • Participate in setting up with the various stakeholders our needs in terms of reports and other requirements for the preparation of tax production.
  • Work with IT stakeholders to issue the various tax statements according to schedule.
  • Validate the various tax statements before publication and dispatch.
  • Attend internal and external tax production meetings.
  • Keep abreast of changes in government legislation.
  • Compile data, fill in various files and index data in systems for issuing various tax slips.
  • Produce year-end reports for the firm to the various tax authorities within the prescribed deadlines.
  • Produce year-end reports for the firm to the Canadian government under the FATCA-CRS program
  • Make requests for corrections or duplicates of tax slips.
  • Compile data and produce tax statements manually for certain types of products/accounts.

General

  • Act as a resource person for internal and external customers.
  • Work closely with IT to automate processes.
  • Contribute to the collective effort.
  • Perform all other tasks of a similar or related nature

· Qualifications

  • Completed university degree or college diploma and 5 years' experience in the field
  • Bilingualism (spoken/written) French and English*
  • General knowledge of investment income tax laws
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Knowledge of ISM, CPS, WorkDesk systems an asset
  • Organizational skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Autonomy
  • Propensity to provide prompt, efficient customer service
  • Ability to work as part of a team
*Professional working proficiency in French and English languages required as position involves frequent written and oral communication on complex matters with internal and external parties in both languages.
