             Academic Thoracic Surgeon

 

McMaster University in conjunction with St. Joseph's Healthcare, Hamilton is seeking a full-time academic Thoracic Surgeon. The Division of Thoracic Surgery serves a catchment area of more than 2.5 million residents. The regional service also provides tertiary and quaternary level care to patients from other regions of the province and plays an essential role in the support of several other regional programs. The regional Thoracic Surgery service, together with the Department of Surgery, McMaster University is involved in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education programs.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate experience and training in the management of benign and malignant thoracic surgery care appropriate for an academic tertiary care level referral centre. They will be expected to show evidence of exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills with initiative to further advance the clinical and academic productivity of the regional Thoracic Surgery service. This is a full-time academic appointment in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University and academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A commitment to surgical education at all levels is essential, as well as active participation in research and academic initiatives in the Division of Thoracic Surgery , including active leadership in research and surgical education.

 

Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2026

 

Applicants must have Certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (,or equivalent,) in Thoracic Surgery and hold licensure  (or be eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
