Academic Cardiac Electrophysiologist
The Department of Medicine at McMaster University invites applications for a Cardiologist to join the Division of Cardiology at McMaster University and the arrhythmia service at Hamilton Health Sciences. This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Clinical activities for this position will take place primarily at the Hamilton General Hospital. Responsibilities will include the delivery of outpatient care to patients referred for an arrhythmia consultation, the performance of electrophysiology (EP) procedures, and an inpatient consult service.
Applicants will have completed speciality training in Cardiology, additional training of at least two (2) fellowship years in EP in a recognized program and have at least five (5) years of experience as an independent electrophysiologist (post-training). Their EP experience should consist of performing EP studies, standard and complex ablations, and implantations of pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices. Experience with left-atrial occlusion devices is essential. A history of recruitment into clinical trials as a site investigator is an asset.
The position will be that of a clinician educator and demonstrated teaching experience is desirable. The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Department of Medicine, McMaster University and will be expected to participate in all the appropriate departmental and divisional educational activities. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching activities and provide teaching for trainees rotating to the lipid and prevention clinics. Academically, the candidate will be expected to develop an educational program that will ensure successful promotion in the Department of Medicine. It is also understood that the applicant will work to support established programs at McMaster (e.g., recruitment into trials). Applicants should have demonstrated the ability to work with all members of the healthcare team, including non-physician health care providers. Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed in the province of Ontario through The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
