The Tobacco Cessation Specialist will provide assessment, consultation, and education to patients in the facility. You will collaborate with staff to educate, facilitate, and assist in the maintenance of a standard of care for Tobacco-addicted patients using established best practices and applying relevant legislation.
What you’ll be doing:
- Work with senior management to promote the Tobacco Cessation Program for the Homewood Health Centre
- Participate and maintain Tobacco-Cessation programs on all units
- Contribute to the coordination of the Tobacco-Free Policy implementation, training and communication
- Facilitate Tobacco cessation policy and program development
- Create and sustain a supportive patient-focused environment for the change of addictive behaviour
- Assist with the implementation of various effective strategies to assist patients with quitting tobacco
- Support clinical areas to develop education, training and consultations related to patient tobacco cessation needs
- Coordinate training sessions and guest speakers for staff on tobacco-related topics
- Demonstrate clinical leadership by establishing treatment goals and working with the patient/client and other team members to develop action steps to meet these goals
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s in Social Work, Counselling, or Nursing
- Specific training in tobacco cessation preferred; Mental Health certificate would be an asset
- Group Facilitation experience as well as working knowledge of DBT & CBT
- Exceptional assessment and documentation skills
- Knowledge of addictions along a continuum of care
- Full understanding of the Mental Health Act
- Familiarity of community mental health resources
- Proven excellence in communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of an innovative interdisciplinary team
- CPR/Basic rescuer
- Ability to prioritize and function effectively in a demanding and challenging environment
- Highly skilled in assessment and prevention of suicide and management of aggressive behaviour through non-violent crisis intervention techniques
- Current knowledge and experience specific to emergency mental health and crisis intervention
- Proven ability to assume leadership
