JOB SUMMARY
The Graphic Designer is responsible for all brand and visual assets for Hydro Ottawa and its affiliates from concept to production, including asset inventory management. Working in a dynamic environment, the Graphic Designer supports marketing campaigns on multiple platforms by producing highly creative and impactful brand material for print publications (ads, posters, event collateral) and digital channels such as Hydro Ottawa websites, email campaigns, e-newsletters, digital ads, videos and social media channels.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following:
Identify, implement and evaluate campaigns and materials to ensure Hydro Ottawa’s graphic and visual asset needs are achieved in support of a variety of campaigns and organizational goals.
Receive information from multiple sources to deliver clear and compelling visual solutions while collaborating and contributing outside-the-box thinking on design, implementation and delivery of strong visual assets.
Work proactively with multiple internal stakeholders to ensure the planning, scheduling, creation and consistent delivery of design assets with the goal of maximizing team efficiency and keeping campaigns on track.
Contribute to ideation and production of brand assets which include, but are not limited to:
Brand identity, policing and communicating brand standards
Digital presentations
Print and digital ads
Reports, case studies, whitepapers and event collateral
Websites
Videos
Email campaigns
E-newsletters
Social media
Participate in meetings, leading discussions on various creative opportunities that will help
Hydro Ottawa preserve, promote and protect the brand.
Maintain and manage electronic and hard-copy inventories of all brand assets including photo release forms and ensure proper credits remain on file for reference.
Ensure all project milestones involving graphic design are met and completed on time.
Participate and contribute to post-mortems of campaigns ensuring lessons learned are presented and assimilated for future campaigns.
Other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A post-secondary degree in graphic design
An equivalent combination of relevant experience and training in a related field may substitute for academic requirements.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a graphic designer role, preferably within an agency or certified as a registered graphic designer (RGD).
Strong design portfolio showcasing a variance work for a variety of channels.
Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc).
Working knowledge of CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript.
Knowledge of WordPress and content management systems.
Solid photography experience and proficiency with photo-editing software; video editing and motion graphics skills considered an asset.
Strong foundation in typography and graphic design fundamentals.
Experience and understanding of digital design concepts and must know how to optimize visual assets for various channels.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
English essential, both oral and written
Bilingual (English and French) considered an asset
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and IBEW Local 636.
Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, the details of which the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates.
