Canadian employers are increasingly conscious of the fact that supporting LGBT inclusion is not only the right thing to do, it’s good for business. However, the vast majority of Canadian employers disproportionately focus their inclusion efforts on sexual orientation; cisgender employees who are bi, gay or lesbian. Only about 10% of Canadian employers have an established strategy for inclusion on the grounds of gender identity and gender expression.
The 519’s Creating Authentic Spaces toolkit guides organizations to challenge transphobia and to foster environments that are inclusive of gender identity and gender expression. This workshop, co-facilitated by the toolkit’s author Jacq Hixson-Vulpe and Pride at Work Canada Executive Director Coin Druhan, will explore the experiences and challenges faced by trans people in Canadian workplaces as well as best practices explored in the toolkit. Participants will learn how they can develop approaches that foster a trans inclusive environment for employees, customers and clients.
