The Role

As part of Bell Business Market’s Client Service organization, the Business Intelligence Team has the mandate to improve the end-to-end customer experience for our Mid-Market, Large Market and Wholesale customers through data and the insights gained from data. This responsibility comprises interpreting trends as well as identifying risks and opportunities regarding overall customer experience, productivity and transformation initiatives.

Reporting to the Director, Business Intelligence, this position calls for a flexible, business minded individual who is focused on results and driving change armed with strong critical thinking skills. To this end, you must be capable and comfortable challenging the status quo, while working effectively in a collaborative manner with all business units and levels. Leading a team of Data Scientists, responsible for the recurrent production of results and supporting analytics to Bell’s top executives, strong leadership abilities must have been demonstrated.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of a newly established and growing Data Science team and help execute key Data and Machine Learning initiatives. You will have opportunities to apply and grow your data science skills by working with experts in the field and using state of the art data solutions, as well as apply and grow your leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic business intelligence support to executives and upper management for strategy discussions on a weekly and/or monthly basis
  • Support in end-to-end data roadmap strategy including ETL development, analytics, reporting, model building and providing recommendations Explore and propose solutions to business problems that can be addressed using insights from data
  • Suggest data architecture strategies, principles, standards and frameworks; Analyze and evaluate tactical and/or strategic data architecture solutions to meet business requirements
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with other primes from operations, project and capacity planning
  • Support the growth of the machine learning and AI expertise in the team
  • Present data-driven recommendations to an executive audience
  • Develop, test & implement program logic

Critical Competencies

  • 5 years experience leading a team of professionals
  • University degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or another quantitative discipline. Graduate degree in Data Science or related discipline is a strong asset
  • Proven experience in advanced concepts in the fields of analytics, data modeling, forecasting, reporting, task automation, etc.
  • Proven proficiency in Python, R and/or other programming languages
  • Understanding of the principles behind MapReduce, Hadoop and/or Spark ecosystems
  • Fully proficient in SQL
  • Proficiency in statistics with a demonstrated application of a wide range of analytical techniques to solve a variety of business problems
  • Proven track record of taking initiative, recognizing opportunities for improvements as well as translating and presenting data insights into impactful recommendations
  • Strong interpersonal, consulting, collaborative, oral and written English communication skills
  • Deadline driven with excellent project and time management skills
  • Passion for uncovering business needs, identifying opportunities, and aligning efforts to ensure timely implementation

Preferred Competencies

  • Hands on machine learning and AI experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in technology companies and/or telecom networks is a strong asset
  • Ability to develop viable financial business cases
  • Advanced Excel modelling skills
