Rookie League Behaviour Camp Champion
Jays Care’s goal is to provide a safe, meaningful experience for children, youth, coaches and partners that is wildly fun and effective at enhancing important life-skills. Working with like-minded partners, each year Jays Care provides over 65,000 Canadian children and youth programming and safe spaces in which to play, where they are given the opportunity to gain valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, resiliency, confidence and self-esteem.
Each summer, Jays Care Foundation partners with Toronto Community Housing to operate Rookie League, a 7-week summer camp for kids aged 6-12 years old living in Toronto Community Housing. The camp includes baseball along with a wide range of various recreation activities, arts based, sports and promoting life skills.
Jays Care Foundation is looking for six (6) dedicated and motivated individuals who have a passion for youth development and extensive experience working in a camp setting. Rookie League Behaviour Camp Champions have experience proactively creating environments where children bring out their best behaviour, as well as a wide range of tactics for supporting and intervening when children are exhibiting challenging behaviors. Behaviour Camp Champions are assigned to support 5 different camps. They spend time at camps that require behavioural supports and may move from site-to-site over the course of each week. While at a Rookie League site, Behaviour Camp Champions support staff in running the daily program, work one-on-one with children who are struggling to manage their behaviours, and liaise with parents where additional supports or interventions are required.
Candidates should have experience in child-focused recreational settings, be confident in their ability to plan and execute behavioural techniques (such as behaviour contracts and one on one coaching of youth/staff), and be highly organized with the ability to adapt quickly when changes are made. The job begins with an extensive three-week training. These positions require individuals who are knowledgeable and motivated to integrate themselves with marginalized youth living in or around Toronto Community Housing residences.
