A vital role helping youth in our community
Help give British Columbia’s youth the attention and assistance they need, Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services (YFPS) is mandated to provide court-ordered and court-related assessments and treatment services to troubled youth. In addition, YFPS provides services to young people found unfit to stand trial and those youth found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder.
Under the direction of the Regional Manager and/or Clinic Coordinator and consistent with relevant ethics and standards of conduct governing your profession, you will be responsible for comprehensive independent psychological assessment(s) of youth offenders. You may also be required to provide testimony as an expert forensic witness in support of court-ordered or court-related psychological assessment in pre-disposition issues. Additionally you will provide general and specialized individual and group counselling and therapy for youth and at times their families. Treatment services are provided for those who have committed violent offences, sexual offences and for those who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of exposure to family or other violence or abuse.
